HEXHAM TUP SALE

Hexham & Northern Marts conducted the sale of

Blackface Shearlings & Ram Lambs on behalf of

members of the North of England Branch of the

Blackface Sheep Breeders Association.

The sale was kindly sponsored by Cath Reed of NFU Mutual Insurance

 

There was an entry of 283 Shearling Rams and 34 Ram Lambs. Prior to the sale the Shearlings were expertly judged by Annabelle Morshead, Nilston Rigg Farms, Langley on Tyne.  There were 23 excellent shearlings turned out for the show and the awards were made as follows.

First Prize      - M J Snaith, Clennell

Second Prize  - W Walton, Toft House

Third Prize    -  R & RJ Coulson, High Staward

Champion Shearling by a Yatesfield Sire from M J Snaith, Clennell which went on to sell for £12500

Awards for the Group of Three Shearlings were,

1st Prize  - H & H Robson, Townshields 2nd Prize  - RJ & J Raine, Townfoot 3rd Prize -  W Walton, Toft House

 

Ram Lambs were expertly judged by Mr Tom Hunter, Lamperts who made his awards as follows,

First Prize       -  Nilston Rigg Farms, Nilston Rigg

Second Prize  -   K W Shield, Tecket

Third Prize    -   Nilston Rigg Farms, Nilston Rigg

Champion Ram Lamb by a Toft House Sire, from Nilston Rigg Farms which went on to sell for £1000

Awards for the Group of Three Ram Lambs were,

1st Nilston Rigg Farms, Nilston Rigg, 2nd GM & C Walton Allensgreen, 3rd Nilston Rigg Farms, Nilston Rigg

 

The Scotch Type Rams and the Overall Champions were expertly judged by Mr Geoff Paxton, Greenleighton who made his awards as follows,

Best Scotch Type Ram

First Prize      -    Ram Lamb by a Home Bred Sire from R A Robson, Toft House, which went on to sell for £2600

Second Prize  -   Shearling from K W Shield, Tecket

Third Prize    -   Shearling from F T Walton, Dudlees

Best Scotch Type Ram, by a Home Bred Sire, from Robert Robson, Toft House which went on to sell for £2600

 

OVERALL CHAMPION  -  Shearling from M J Snaith, Clennell

RESERVE CHAMPION  -   Ram Lamb from Nilston Rigg Farms, Nilston Rigg

The G F Stephenson Memorial Trophy for the highest priced tup was new to the sale this year and was most generously donated to the branch by Mr Geoff Peddie of S & G Engineering, Prudhoe in memory of George Stephenson and the time spent with him at Monkridge.  Mr Peddie is seen pictured above, making the first presentation of the trophy to Steven Mckay on behalf of M J Snaith for the Clennell tup which sold for £12500.
